Joe Johnson is a husband, father and veteran. He is pro-Second Amendment, a pro-business man who has demonstrated energetic leadership, clarity of vision and a passion for service to our nation and state. Joe is a proven servant-leader who will represent all of Bay County and help bridge the gap of communication between elected officials and citizens.
At age sixteen Joe made the decision to serve his country. He joined the Michigan National Guard while still in high school, earning him the nickname “G.I. Joe”. Joe then went on to serve with distinction with the United States Army, earning many awards while serving overseas. While in Alaska, Joe became the Alaska Soldier of the Year and was awarded the Alaska Commendation Medal while volunteering for a rescue mission to save an 8-year-old girl lost overnight in the woods. He was awarded the Expert Infantry Badge, Senior Military Emergency Management Specialist Badge, Airman Medical Badge, National Defense Medal, Overseas Service Award (2), Good Conduct Medals, Army Achievement Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award and other service awards.
After twelve years of active service and six years of guard service to the nation, Joe was honorably discharged and returned to Michigan to be with family and friends. He stated, “I had many opportunities in other states, but I wanted to be home.”
In October 2012, Joe joined the State Guard of Michigan and rose to become an Executive Officer and eventually Company Commander. In 2015, Joe resigned from his posting to dedicate his time to pursue a political career.
Joe and his wife Jennifer (Curtiss) reside in Frankenlust Township, near Bay City, Michigan. Joe and Jeni have grown children that are developing their own careers. The Johnsons love spending time with their parents and other family members who live right here in the Tri-City area. They love animals, having cats and a wonderful new puppy. The Johnsons love traveling across Michigan, on what they call “day adventures”, and being outdoors working on their garden and lawn.
Joe has extensive training in the operations of FEMA and other emergency management organizations. He is trained by the United States Air Force as an Ophthalmic Apprentice and Assistant in Optometry, and with United States Army as an Infantryman.
Joe is a member of the American Legion in Bay City , the Bay City Lions, and long-term member of the NRA. Jeni is a member of a philanthropic women’s association.
